Astronomer Vera Rubin, who helped develop our understanding of dark matter passed away on Christmas Day at the age of 88.

Rubin’s research in observational cosmology led to astronomer’s understanding of the mysterious, unobservable, dark matter. She observed that galaxies were rotating faster than they should based on their stellar mass and gravity.
