On Golden Pond, or at least at the Planetarium

I ventured out to Western Kentucky earlier this week and visited the Land Between the Lakes region.

During the trip I happened by the Golden Pond Planetarium and stopped in for a visit where I met staff astronomy docent Jim Phfistner. Jim and I spent a delightful hour talking astronomy and he gave me a tour of the visitor’s center and planetarium.

The planetarium is a 40 foot dome. The center also is home to the Western Kentucky Amateur Astronomers observatory which sports a 16 inch LX-200 and a Coronado HA solar scope.

The mount for the 16 was fabricated by a WKAA member.

Jim was busy with visitors so we didn’t have the opportunity to walk out to the observatory.

Gold Pond planetarium now offers Orion telescope products and a nice variety of astronomy and eclipse related items. Thanks to Jim and Geniece for a wonderful welcome and very enjoyable visit!
